What is the best type of mattress?
The perfect mattress is the one that feels best to you, that is why we have over 70 beds on display for you to try and see how they feel. If it is for every night use instead of a spare room then generally, we would recommend a pocket sprung mattress. This is where each spring is in its own individual pocket, this lets them work independently to contour to your body and offer excellent support. Pocket springs can come in every feel from super soft to rock hard depending what feel you prefer. A mattress will almost always have a comfort filling layer on top of the springs, this could be; memory foam, polyester, gel or a huge variety of natural fillings. All different fillings have different feels and different strengths or weaknesses e.g. memory foam moulds perfectly to you but doesn’t breathe so you can get very hot and some people feel stuck in place on a foam mattress Gel has almost replaced memory foam for its ability to mould perfectly to you but breathes much better than memory foam. Polyester is a cheaper filling and doesn’t always have the same luxury feel as some of the other fillings. Natural fillings generally breathe much better than can offer the ultimate luxury feel and are almost always better for the environment than the man-made fillings but can be more expensive.
We aim to be able to show a customer a range of different mattresses at different prices with different feels in a variety of feels so they can select the correct mattress. We strongly believe that when you lie on the best mattress for you, you will know. People can be so drawn into wanting a certain spring count, filling or even something described as orthopaedic. Our view is that while spring count does play a part in feel and support, it is not necessarily as important as feel.
